The PatronTicket: Example for mobility management for elderly peoply by consumer-to-consumer marketing in public transport (2007 - 2008)

Project description:

The PatronTicket:    Example for mobility management for elderly peoply by consumer-to-consumer marketing in public transport (2007-2008)

The aim of the project is to initiate a word-of-mouth advertising with regular customers older than 60 years to support the access to public transportation for new elderly customers. The PatronTicket is a consumer-to-consumer marketing concept and it will be tried out in cooperation with the Public Transport Company in Cologne. For the Public Transport Company, the concept may be a marketing strategy to increase public transport ridership and to enhance the access to mobility for elderly people.

In a previous research project "Leisure mobility of elderly people" (2001-2004), one of the findings was, that each means of transport has its own techniques and their use needs to be learned. It is necessary to support access and orientation in public transportation to create routines and travel patterns for using the public means of transport regularly.

The Public Transport Company provides tickets for 100 elderly "patrons" and their 100 elderly "godchildren", so that the godchildren can use public transport in the Cologne area and have the opportunity to get support from their patrons.

Finally the "PatronTicket" will be revised, focussing on the marketing aspects of transportation planning. It is suggested that improving the multimobility of the elderly, gaining new customers for the transportation company and reducing the negative environmental and spatial impact of increasing automobility could be combined.
